Export VMWare Player’s Virtual Machines to an OVF file

Need to move your VMWare or import it into VirtualBox?  In order to perform an export, download the ovftool from VMWare.  Install the software and after the installation-

  • Find the path to your VM
  • Open a command prompt (elevated).
  • Type CDprogram filesvmwarevmware OVF_Tool
  • Enter
  • type ovftool “C:the path to your VMyour VMname.vmx”  c:new directoryname.ovf

Below you will see common syntax errors and the correct syntax at the bottom of the screenshot
